Wow! We just had the most horrifying visit with Dr. DiChristina! One month ago, Dr. Daniel Christina entered the exam room with two men and did not introduce them. When I asked about who they were, he made a joke. I did not laugh. I asked again. He made another joke. I did not laugh. He said "you're not laughing at my joke" I said "no", and just looked at him. He was doing a follow-up for my 83 year-old mother, in a cramped exam room with the three men towering over her by at least a foot.( She is under 5 ft. at this point) It was so unprofessional, insensitive, and disrespectful to my mother that I was just gobb smacked and couldn't think of what to say. We returned today for her 1 month follow up, and this time was even worse! My mother and I had discussed Dr. DiChristina's behaviour after the first appointment, how all she wanted was an introduction of the two men, and how vulnerable she felt standing there in her underpants in a room stuffed with men who didn't respect her enough to tell her why they were there. We decided that I would say something at the next visit. I practiced it in my mind so that it would be concise and would not unnecessarily escalate the situation. Today Dr. DiChristina came in to the exam room, followed by two men, again not introducing them. I said right away, "Before you start I want to discuss what happened last time." I got no further than saying that it was disrespectful to my mother and that he should have ASKED her first, when Dr. DiChristina interrupted me, raising his voice and saying that he was going to check his notes to see what happened. I started to say that "I'm trying to tell you what happened from our perspective" when he interrupted me and snapped " don't interrupt me" ( He had actually interrupted me first, in the middle of my very first sentence- the one I had been practicing for a month which was: " Dr. DiChristina, refusing to introduce the men that followed you into the exam room was dissrespectful and insensitive to my mother, as well as unprofessional. I would hope that you would be more concerned about putting your patient at ease, and upholding ethical and professional standards than about whether or not we laugh at your jokes. I hope you can realize how uncomfortable you made my mother, your patient, and will feel moved to apologise to her." Dr DiChristina quickly became more bullying, loud and irrational. Saying that he was going to "check his notes to see who ( I ) was." I told him, "I'm her daughter" and he said "well, we'll just see who you are!" as he rushed to his lap top, his body shaking and voice trembling, refusing to look at me.It was really bizzare! He didn't want to hear anything from me, and said that he would find all the "facts" in his notes from the last visit. There is only one reality at Dr. DiChristina's office, and that is HIS. I don't think anyone has ever called him out on his faults or deficiencies before. I mean, he practically had a nervous breakdown in front of me. He was like a mean spirited Pekenese dog having a breakdown. I couldn't believe it. We are looking into making a formal complaint about him bringing in a "scribe" without asking my mother's permission first. And all of this could have been avoided if he'd had the respect for his patient to introduce the people he was dragging behind him into the exam room. Good, simple, BASIC manners. Something you should know to do even if your not a Doctor. Oh, and he never did apologize to my mother.
